How to avoid a collision with a deer

The most dangerous animal in North America isn’t the Shark or even the Bear. No, it’s the deer, and Fall is the deadliest time of all. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are about 1 million car accidents with deer each year that kill 200 Americans, cause more than 10,000 personal injuries, and result in $1 billion in vehicle damage. By comparison, sharks only kill about 1 person on average each year in the USA in the past 10 years. In a recent study the Institute for Highway Safety found that 60% of people who die in collisions with deer were not wearing their safety belts.

So, if you want to avoid a collision with a deer, the message is clear, buckle up, and be more aware during dawn and dusk and teaching your children how to be better drivers by enrolling them in an ODOT approved Driver Education Course could be most beneficial.
